October 2nd, 2012 - As a green property from inception we have had an eco friendly procedure to do all of our cleaning including laundry. Unfortunately in that area the green products have not given the desired quality of cleanliness. Although we have tried several green products and done many adjustments to the products to try to receive the desired results we still have not had success. Because of this reason we are going to have to switch to a standard fabric cleaning product which is not considered green. We are saddened to have to do so but clean sheets are important to you and to us. We will continue to try new green products as they come out and hopefully will find success with one of them in the future so that we can be green & clean. Thank you for your consideration.
October 15, 2012 - The Viana Hotel and Spa, owned/managed by Samar Hospitality, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR certification, which signifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.
"The Viana Hotel and Spa is pleased to accept EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts,” said Alan Mindel, Managing Partner. "Through this achievement, we have demonstrated our commitment to environmental stewardship while also lowering our energy costs.”
Commercial buildings that earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The Viana Hotel and Spa improved its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to its building.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment, “ said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
To earn the ENERGY STAR, The Viana Hotel and Spa took the following actions:
The Viana Hotel and Spa has guest rooms that use computerized state-of-the-art occupancy sensors and lighting and comfort controls to both save energy and give guests the ability to adjust the climate in the room for their greatest comfort. The Viana’s 50 rooftop solar photovoltaic cell (PVC) panels produce an estimated 12,100 kWh a year, reducing fossil fuel consumption and, as a result, making the Viana’s carbon footprint delicately small.
State-of-the-art LED lighting is being used throughout the Viana’s Lobby and Restaurant. LED lighting reduces the lighting electric load by at least 60% compared to traditional T-12 fluorescent bulbs. The energy savings are even greater compared to incandescent bulbs and energy-hogging halogen bulbs. LED lighting lasts at least 10 times longer than florescent lighting. (No mercury is used in LEDs as there is in fluorescents. This makes LEDs much safer and probably the greenest form of electrical lighting around.)
Well-insulated buildings conserve energy both in heating and cooling, reducing fossil fuel use and carbon production. The Viana uses three types of insulation in its construction:
- Blown cellulose insulation made with recycled content is used in the exterior walls.
- Roxul insulation made with recycled content is used interior walls.
- Icyene spray foam insulation is used underneath the roof membrane, making the roof completely tight and free from heat leakage.
All of the Viana’s insulation saves energy by improving building energy performance and also by reducing air leakage and accompanying movement of moisture.
EPA’s ENERGY STAR energy performance scale helps organizations assess how efficiently their buildings use energy relative to similar buildings nationwide. A building that scores a 75 or higher on EPA’s 1-100 scale may be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification. Commercial buildings that can earn the ENERGY STAR include offices, bank branches, data centers, financial centers, retail stores, courthouses, hospitals, hotels, K-12 schools, medical offices, supermarkets, dormitories, houses of worship, and warehouses.ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 60 different kinds of products as well as new homes and commercial and industrial buildings that meet strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA. Over the past twenty years, American families and businesses have saved a total of nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.7 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions with help from ENERGY STAR.
January 25, 2013 - The Viana Hotel and Spa in Westbury, New York Looks to Help Revitalize Long Island and have their Guests Relax while a Little Rock N' Roll Takes Place Right Next Door. Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo will be performing at the NYCB Theater at Westbury on Friday, January 25th 2013 to Rebuild Long Island, A Sandy Relief Benefit Concert. In addition the Viana Hotel and Spa located next door from the Theater will be donating 10% of the revenue it generates Friday night to the Habitat for Humanity and the Lindenhurst Fire Department. The Viana Hotel and Spa is located in the heart of Long Island in Westbury. Although the Hotel itself had little to no damage due to Sandy, it was host to many guests that had experienced great damage and loss for days and even weeks that followed. Although many of the Hotel's employees live in various regions throughout Long Island, and they also suffered from various losses and damages due to the storm, their dedication to providing services to the guests of the Hotel was unwavering. Mr. Alan Mindel, the Operating Partner of Samar Hospitality, the parent company to the Viana Hotel and Spa was amazed how his team pulled together to not only meet the needs of their guests but how they were motivated to exceed their expectations. Mindel stated, “We have five hotels across Long Island and the team of people that I am surrounded by never let Sandy stand in their way to providing our guests with accommodations, services and amenities as close to normal as possible under the circumstances. Because the majority of us did not suffer significant damages or losses, I think it put things in perspective a bit for many of us and it just motivated us to rise to the occasion and the demand. I was and still am proud of the Samar Hospitality family of employees that helped us get through the storm and beyond.” On Friday, January 25th 2013 Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo will help Rebuild Long Island with a Sandy Relief Benefit Concert being held at NYCB Theater at Westbury. Proceeds will be going to the Habitat for Humanity and the Lindenhurst Fire Department. Benatar’s family is from Lindenhurst, Long Island. Lindenhurst is located on the Island’s south shore and is one of the town’s that experienced some severe damage and losses. In a joint effort to help those across Long Island, the Viana Hotel and Spa, which is located right next door from the NYCB Theater will be donating 10% of the revenue it generates Friday night to the same organizations. Those that may be attending the concert may want to consider dining at Marco Polo’s Restaurant and Bar located in the Viana Hotel, or perhaps even making arrangements to stay overnight in their relaxing and well appointed rooms and suites. To make arrangements with the Viana Hotel and Spa just call 516-338-7777 and be sure to ask for the NYCB code to receive a special discounted rate. In addition, if restaurant and bar goers show their tickets they’ll receive 20% their bill. This is not the first time Samar Hospitality and the Viana Hotel and Spa has participated in assisting with the revitalization of Long Island following Super Storm Sandy. Samar Hospitality was also a big part of a joint effort to serve Long Beach residents that were displaced by the storm a hot dinner on Thanksgiving Day. In getting to know Mindel and Samar Hospitality this will most likely not be their last effort either.
April 26, 2013- The Viana Hotel and Spa in Westbury, Long Island, Awarded Prestigious LEED Green Building Certification.
The Viana Hotel and Spa announced today that it has been awarded LEED® Certification. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council™ (USGBC), is the principal program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
The Viana Hotel and Spa achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at accomplishing high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality.
Operating Partner Alan Mindel of Samar Hospitality, the parent company to the Viana Hotel and Spa stated, “My family and I had a vision when we built the Viana Hotel and Spa from the ground up to be extremely environmentally conscious and responsible. We knew what we had achieved when the Hotel was completed and when we began operating; however, to now be recognized and become LEED Certified through the USGBC, just put the icing on the cake for all of us. We have a great sense of accomplishment. It’s a proud moment in time for our company as a whole. The Viana is the first LEED Certified Hotel on Long Island."
The Viana Hotel and Spa opened in October of 2010. It is a proud member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and a member/partner of Stash Rewards. Since the Hotel’s inception, it has attracted the likes of the corporate, leisure, social and extended stay markets from all around the world. The Hotel has been recognized as one of the leading Hotels on Long Island and has been the recipient of various awards.
The Hotel’s General Manager, Takir Rafiq, looks ahead to the future of the Hotel and the company. When he was asked how he feels about the Hotel becoming LEED Certified he stated, “It’s a tremendous sense of accomplishment for all of us. It’s also a tremendous responsibility. Being environmentally conscious and friendly is something we all embrace at the Viana. The Viana Hotel and Spa joined a small, elite group of hotels with their LEED Certification; however, it is one that also continues to grow as hotel owners and builders begin to really look at sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.

The Viana Hotel and Spa today announced that it has received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award. The accolade, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide. Only the top-performing 10 percent of businesses listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.

June 3, 2013 - Staff from The Viana Hotel & Spa attended the Long Island Hospitality Ball. The gala was created and organized by Keith Hart, a hospitality industry mainstay and cancer survivor, to raise funds for The American Cancer Society by showcasing offerings from the region’s top restaurants, wine and spirit brands, nightclubs and entertainers as well as hotels and catering halls.
June 10, 2013 - Staff from The Viana Hotel and Spa attended the USGBC's 2013 "Building Green Long Island" Gala. The Viana Hotel and Spa is proud to support this cause and is leading the way on Long Island as it's only LEED certified hotel.

Where do we start?! My husband and I stayed at the Viana twice in the past 6 months for business. Upon booking the reservation, the front desk was pleasant and accommodating. First great sign! When we arrived, Sean took great care of us...never ending professionalism and smiles. Our room was AMAZING and comfortable with a king size bed and the softest sheets. Extremely clean. (I'm a bit of a clean freak)!. The drivers Mike and Louis treated us with the friendliest care bringing us to our business meetings. We left the Viana feeling like family! We cannot express enough the beauty of this place. Their customer service is top notch. Oh, and the food is incredible with an Italian/Asian flare. We're staying at the Viana every chance we get. Even if we visit NYC we'll stay there and take the Long Island Railroad to Penn. Room Tip: Our suite was bright and large enough to get lost in!

We blocked out rooms for our wedding guests. From the beginning of the process when we booked the block until the last guest checked out, we have been very satisfied with the professionalism, friendliness and overall service of the staff. The rooms are of great size, the beds comfortable, the restaurant is excellent and especially Louis, the bellman went above and beyond for us and our guests to make our stay exceptional.
Totally recommend the Hotel for large groups, events or just personal stays! Two thumbs up, thanks again Viana Team!
July 15, 2013 - The Viana Hotel & Spa was proud to support the Marty Lyons Foundation by participating at their 28th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic. We set up a Rest & Relaxation Station where 5 minute head and neck massages were provided by our spa massage therapists.
July 22, 2013 - The Viana Hotel & Spa donated to The Variety Child Learning Center for a fundraising event. The Variety Child Learning Center provides services to more than one thousand children with developmental disabilities.
August 2, 2013 - The Viana Hotel & Spa donated to Winthrop University Hospital for their 22nd Annual Gala. The proceeds for the Gala go towards hospital research.

We stayed over at the Viana Hotel & Spa for a wedding that was taking place on Long Island. This place is fabulous! The hotel is beautiful, very clean, and the service is amazing. They call you by your name when you pass through the lobby. They get you whatever you might need. The room has everything: flat screen TV, complimentary wi-fi, a mini-fridge, mini-Keurig machine with free coffee pods, a microwave, etc. And this was a standard room. There are also suites that have hottubs, kitchenettes, & a living space. I would highly recommend staying here. You will not be dissapointed!

Came here for a weekend getaway after proposing to my girlfriend (now my fiance). This place is beautiful. The service is perfect. The staff is absolutely top notch. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the romance package is well worth the money. My fiance loved everything. I can't wait to come back for another weekend getaway. If you are reading this review, you won't be disappointed. This place is great.

This was a night away and what I night it was. From the moment of my online booking to the moment we departed it was fabulous. The staff is genuinely friendly and professional. Everyone we encountered handled themselves as if the hotel was there family business (caring, professional and attentive). We actually had our dinner appetizers at the bar and the atmosphere was very friendly and uplifting. The chef suggested plates for us and did not hesitate to answer any of the questions we had. The food from appetizers thru dessert was delicious - we were pleasantly surprised. Also, each time a staff member encountered us they greeted us as if we had frequented the Hotel Spa. Unbelievable customer service.
The Spa was as good if not better than any NYC spa I have gone to. Just a great place and we will be visiting again.--you should too.

“Perfect hotel experience for my wedding!”Our stay with Viana was perfection! We used Viana Hotel for our wedding. My bridal party and I got ready in our Kitchenette Suite the morning of the wedding. All of the staff was very accommodating with bringing us bar stools needed for our hair and make-up to be done as well as guiding our vendors as to where our room was.
My husband and I, as well as all of our guests, were very impressed with the quality, professionalism, service and cleanliness of Viana Hotel! All of the staff members were *very* polite and helpful, especially our bellman Louis who went above and beyond to help us load and unload all of our items and did all he could to help with anything else we needed. The food at our post-nuptial breakfast was delicious and we all enjoyed everything!
We would absolutely recommend Viana Hotel and are actually planning to stay there again (and use their spa services!) next year for our 1-year anniversary!

My stay at The Viana was absolutely extraordinary. I began the start of my birthday weekend with a hotel stay and a spa experience. Louis the doorman made my birthday experience a special one, adorned with chocolate strawberries, rose petals, and white wine. I had the best shea butter scrub done by Tatianna, who was absolutely fabulous and great to talk to. The wait staff at Marco Polos was the best, as Alex and Alana sang happy birthday to me. I must say this was the best birthday ever. Thank you very much Hotel Viana staff for making my birthday stay memorable one.
January 21, 2014 - The Viana Hotel & Spa donated to the March of Dimes March for Babies 2014 campaign. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, prematurity & infant mortatlity. Funds raised through projects like March for Babies support programs of community service, research, advocacy & education.
January 28, 2014 - The Viana Hotel & Spa donated to the Pediatric Diabetes Program at the Children's Medical Center at Winthrop University Hospital for their 5th annual Bite of Hope for Winthrop - An Evening of Tasting & Giving charity event. The procees from the event will enable them to expand the psycho-social services provided for their patients. Since its inceptions in 2002, the Pediatric Diabetes Program of the Children's Medical Center at Winthrop University Hospital has been committed to providing quality comprephensive medical care and education to patients with diabetes and their families.
January 31, 2014 - The Viana Hotel & Spa donated to the School for Language and Communication Development's 15th Annual Golf Outing. The School for Language and Communication Development is a not-for-profit organization that helps children between the ages of 18 months and 21 years with severe language disability, Autism Spectrum disorders and other Learning disabilites to be able to communicate.
